Art and creative work
This page is currently intentionally fairly left blank as I have been too unwell to access a kind of creative practice that would feel good for me to share publicly.
My background is in Caribbean carnival costume arts, quilting, immersive theatre props and set making, and collaborative community arts projects.
I was awarded a small grant by A.N. Artists Info to adapt my home studio to be more accessible for me as my body changes, which has been a great opportunity to learn more about my access needs.
I love trying out every kind of creative medium, and am not outcome-focused. I enjoy playfully trying everything.
I was raised by a mother who quilted, made clothes and repaired everything. This has given me an understanding that textiles are love, care, self expression, an opportunity to reduce out impact on the environment, and a way to gently connect and spend meaningful time with people.
Iām interested in art that can make sense to everyone, and not intimidate or humiliate the viewer. I like things that have function and that communicate love.
I am limited in my creative practice by funds for tools and materials, energy impairment, and the forced administrative demands put upon medicalised disabled people in the uk. I hope to develop my understanding of my own access needs in the next few years so that I can begin to try out having studio support and access assistance.
I have frequently collaborated with the artist Bella Milroy www.bellamilroy.com
